Athletes Have More Attractive Bodies Than “Gym Rats”

Athletes Have More Attractive Bodies Than “Gym Rats”
Updated July 8, 2007
There is something about a body that gets fit through sports that is more attractive than gym built bodies. The nice thing about sports is that the body gets built up in a natural way. A common thing I see with "gym rats" is that they have bulky muscle that actually makes them less athletic.
Have You Ever Seen A Guy With Huge Legs Try and Run?
There are some guys with legs so bulky they can hardly even walk, so running is out of the question. I forget where I read this, but a world renowned track coach got into an argument with a bodybuilder. He argued that excessive leg mass was a disadvantage in any sports requiring running (which includes almost every sport, by the way). To make a long story short the 25 year old bodybuilder and 3 of his bodybuilding friends raced 800 meters (2 laps around the track) against a man in his 60's.
Results of This Race Between The 4 Bodybuilders and Man in His 60's
The man in his 60's beat the next closest by over 200 meters! Two out of the other three couldn't even make it two laps around the track, because of pulled muscles. The 4th guy had to walk the last lap. I have to laugh!
Some Time in the Gym is Great, But Sports Will Push Your Body to The Next Level
I think one of the reasons sports really gets people nice and lean is that you get competitive and physically push yourself harder than you normally would on your own accord. You will naturally run harder if you are sprinting against an opponent -vs- just running on a treadmill.

As a man, you were born with a muscle that drives women wild. When a woman sees a nice one she gasps in excitement. Women talk about this area of a man's body quite a bit…but most men don't realize it. It is almost taboo to talk about in fitness circles. No…it's not "that" muscle. Get your mind out of the gutter!

I'm Talking About The Lower Abdominal and Hip Region
Women love the area of a man's body where the lower abs meet the hip flexors. This forms those "V" shaped lines when a man is at a low body fat level and has good ab definition. I think women

Akon is the man right now…seriously! He is an incredibly talented musician…but beyond that, all of the hip young women that I hang out with love this guy. Many people claim that guys like this wouldn't be able to attract women if they weren't famous…with Akon this simply isn't the case. He is in great shape, has created a funky look, and has a very solid presence. It is easy to put down successful people and discount their accomplishments…but I'd rather learn from successful people like this.

So…do I know David Beckham's exact workout routine? No I don't…but I'm convinced that he is very lean due to his sport. How many chubby football (soccer) players do you know? Well…every time I have watched the World Cup I have looked for someone out of shape, but I've never found anybody.
You can't say the same for other sports. There are quite a few pudgy guys in professional baseball as well as American Football.
The sport of football (soccer) is basically an example of one really long interval workout. It has been proven that interval training is much more effective at burning body fat than "target heart rate" cardio. This is a big reason that football (soccer) players are absolutely ripped. If you want to read a detailed article about interval training workouts <---click here.
Does David Beckham have a lot of muscle? Well, no he doesn't. Do most women think he is ridiculously attractive? You bet they do! It really goes to show you that it pays to be lean vs. having a bunch of muscle. The nice thing about being lean is that it leans your face out as well. It gives you more of a square jawed angular look to your face which women find attractive.
Next time you go to the gym, ask yourself where you are spending your time. If you want to become more attractive to women, you probably want to devote more time in your workout routine to cardio. David Beckham is a great role model for guys in this regard.

Why get in great shape and get a rockin' body only to screw it up with bad clothing? Seriously…this isn't addressed enough in my opinion. Having a bad sense of style is a serious deal breaker when it comes to attraction. Buying clothes that accentuate your body and are somewhat current should be on your list of priorities if you want to look good!

[Here is a video for the ladies. A bunch of attractive "GQ" looking guys. I owed ya one after all the sleazy music video's with half-naked women!]
Are You Still Wearing What Was Popular In Your Mid-20's?
This is a huge phenomenon I see! Many people stick to what was popular around the time they graduate from college or shortly after high school if they didn't go to college. I graduated college in 1992. Around that time goatees were popular, so were "relaxed fit" and over sized jeans. Another trend was that people would tuck shirts into their jeans. The Abercrombie movement was picking up steam and flannel shirts and destroyed carpenter pants were big.
Evolve With Fashion If You Want to Look Good for Your Age
I don't wear relaxed fit tapered jeans from the Gap, I wear boot cut low rise True Religion or Diesel Jeans. I don't have a Goatee and I don't go near baseball caps. The only time I tuck in a shirt is if I'm wearing a tie or suit. I wear fitted shirts that are neither over-sized or skin tight. The bottom line is that I pay attention to what is in style instead of looking like "another bland guy is his late 30's".
If You Sag Your Pants You Look Sloppy!
Sorry kids…this style started over a decade ago. If I can see your underwear, you are WAY behind the times. Low rise stuff is cool, just don't take a regular pair of jeans and yank them below you butt. You want to know where this trend started? It was started in prison. This was an easy way to know who would be on the receiving end of things, if you know what I mean. There are a bunch of 20-something guys and girls still stuck in this time warp! They usually pair this up with the white crooked baseball cap.
Don't Be Afraid to Stand Out a Bit!
I have no problem going to a sports bar and looking like I should be going to a Vegas club. All the other guys have on backwards baseball caps and look like they just got finished doing yard work. I get a few weird looks from the guys, but always end up meeting women this way. Women like guys who put a bit of effort in to what they wear. I think the worst thing you can do as a single guy or girl is "blend in". Don't be afraid dress a little funky and stand out in a good way!
Fashion Advice for Women
Okay, I'm not about to give out detailed fashion advice to women…LOL! I'll just give you a guy's point of view. I like an "understated sexy". Think, "naughty librarian" when you dress to go out. If you are overtly sexy in-your-face sexy like Pamela Anderson, you will attract weird guys. I like the girl with jeans that fit well and maybe a gray tight fitting shirt that shows off her body. Something that takes a second or two to notice. I like to feel like I discovered this "undercover" hot woman. That is just my point of view.
The More Attractive You Are the More You Should Smile
This applies to women even more than guys. If I see a super-attractive girl who looks serious, there is not a chance in hell I will approach her. People like to be around happy people. If you are exceptionally attractive, you have to be extra careful to make sure you smile wherever you go. If you are a single attractive guy or girl and aren't meeting anyone, I bet it is either that you aren't smiling -or- you have a "forced smile". A good smile begins with the eyes and works it way down to your lips (hope that makes sense).
Don't Show Your Toned Body Off Every Chance You Get!
This is something I see ALL the time as well. Especially with younger guys who recently put on a few pounds of muscle. They wear tank tops all the time (the ones they call "wife beaters")…or those sleeveless T shirts. These are the same guys that wear Under Armour shirt to the gym (hint…all of us look much more muscular in those shirts, but they are really corny). Make sure and wear fashionable clothes that "happen" to show off your nice physique. Maybe a fitted short sleeve vintage T shirt instead of a tank top. Wearing clothes that are blatantly meant to show off muscle mass make you look totally cheesy. Show off your body in the context of good fashion.
Don't Hide Your Body…Show It Off When It is Appropriate
You don't want to be too conservative either! If you are at the beach or it is hot or you are at a crazy club, go all out! You are only young once, so flaunt your rockin' body hard at times. If you are a hot woman with a smoking body, let us admire it! I think women are too conservative at times. There are times where it is appropriate to wear skimpy clothing especially if you are in great shape. You won't look good forever, so enjoy it when you can!
Be "Congruent" With What You Wear
You have to pick a style of clothing that fits your look and attitude. George Clooney would look stupid dressing like Chris Daughtry and vice-versa. They both look great, but they both have different styles that fit their overall look. You want to look styling, but in a way that "fits" who you are. If you are a hip-hop guy, be the trend setter (Andre 2000, Ditty, Akon, etc.)…let all the other guys dress in outdated stuff. If you are an alternative rock guy, be the hippest alternative rock guy out there. If you are a guy on Wall Street, stay up to date on the Fashions from Milan. You get the idea.
When People Look At You They Shouldn't Think "Gym"
One of the reasons I advise against excessive muscle is that it is almost "too overt". It is the same effect a woman with massive fake breasts has…it just lacks a bit of sexiness. There is something to be said for taking you clothes off and really surprising people. When people look at you, you want them to think…"that is an attractive guy/girl with a super hot body"…you don't want them to immediately think…"that guy/girl must live in the gym". I hope that makes sense!
